The Best Seafood in Hermosa Beach? Yes.

Not that I've eaten that much seafood in Hermosa Beach. I live in Orange - that's like, 40 miles away - and am driving around a car that you might call a lemon, but that description is too bright and zesty and full of life for what I've got going on. I drive a celery, okay? It's not that great, but it's what I've got.

Anyway. Every time I get in my car it's basically a matter of life and death, so I risked my life to go get this seafood. WORTH. IT.

MOSA Coastal is a stone's throw away from the beach, and located on a cozy little street that reminded me of the streets I love to stroll down in San Diego. San Diego, on the other hand, is not a stone's throw away. Good thing we've got this place, eh, LA people?

It has come to my attention that they do a bottomless mimosa brunch (helllooo, may I please come back?!) and a beautiful breakfast and lunch ((may I please come back again?!)) but we went at dinner time (((still...would come back.)))

When I was telling people (either willingly or against their will, I like to talk about food) where I was going, they asked me what kind of grub was going to be served.  I said "I don't know" and then looked it up. I would professionally describe it as your favorite seafood that decided it really liked Prada and wanted to play fancy dress-up. Then I'd also say Italian Coast with  flair, so you'd actually know what I was talking about.

The first thing I noticed when I walked in was FUZZY CHAIRS. The cozy, moody atmosphere comes complete with white fluffy chairs interspersed throughout the area. Because I don't trust myself to eat while simultaneously being anywhere near a white object without ruining it, we opted for a  booth.

Soon, I was looking at the menu like a Dr. Seuss character.

"One fish, two fish, red fish, blue fish." Me, a clueless person surrounded by good food I'd only kinda sorta heard of.

That's why my boyfriend always likes to ask the waiter what they recommend. I, on the other hand, usually live my life in a perpetual state of not knowing anything but trying to pretend like I do. It usually works, right?

Asking the waiter always works, though. I wouldn't have tried the ahi tartar if it weren't for him. And you have to try the ahi tartar. Look at those beautiful, crisp layers and tell me anything different.

We also nommed the panini rolls. Definitely thought those were going to roll out looking like some Tostino's out of the microwave snacks from the name. But no, my friends. That would be absurd (why did I secretly want that?)

Instead, it's this beautiful bread creation. You can't go wrong with bread.

We were then led through the crowd favorites: lamb pappardelle and cioppino. Cio-whatto? Bless you?

I also had to order scallops, because I can't get enough of those expensive, expensive sea nuggets.

While sipping on some wine and beer that I knew came from a carefully selected list, we waited in anticipation. I knew that them apps had been dang good, so whatever was coming was going to be fun, too.

When the cioppino was placed in front of me, I said cioppin-yes. (And then they kicked me out of the restaurant for the WORLD'S WORST JOKE.)

Here in front of my lay a vat of all the most delicious ocean critters. My happy self got to feast on mussels, clams, calamari, shrimp, fish, and, to my supreme delight, more perfectly cooked scallops. They were all hanging out with some spaghetti as well. Cioppino is described as "Fisherman's Wharf Seafood Stew" and I describe it as something I want to eat all the time every day.

Next came that lamb pappardelle. Hello, hand-made noodles that I can't pronounce. Hello, lambs that I think are so cute but also sadly like to eat. I would like this dish perpetually fed into my mouth on a conveyor belt. Which in other words means it's good, y'all.

We can't forget about scallops. I recently had scallops at a place that I won't mention by name but start's with King's and ends with Seafood House. They were good, but they were the same price as here and accompanied by some kind of rice...stuff. Here, the scallops came on top of celery root puree and surrounded by cute little cherry tomato orbs.

I know I described my car as a celery earlier, but these are two completely unrelated things. This celery is one you eat, not one you drive. Just to make things clear. And this celery root puree was amazing? I say that with a question mark because I never knew such a thing existed. I'm a much bigger fan of celery in general after this whole experience. It tastes like mashed potatoes got healthier, creamier, and then went to "tasting better all-around" class in grad school.

Almost needless to say, we were too stuffed for dessert. Or, I was too busy considering how I could like my plate without being considered an embarrassing person to be around in public.

Here's to beachy restaurants with fuzzy chairs and the best seafood the ocean has to offer.  My Spanish speaking boyfriend reminded me that hermosa means beautiful. Hermosa, MOSA - beautiful indeed.
